Database Administrators Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for database professionals who wish to improve their database skills and learn from others in the community. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have set up 2 profiles. I can send a test email ok to one profile. I have set up 2 operators. I have a simple job (select coount(*)) which when it completes should send an email notification to the operator. Once the job is complete it should send an email to the operator. This does not seem to work, even though i can use the test database email and the email is sent using the correct profile. I have restarted the sql agent service too.

Anyone have suggestions??

See if these help: select * from msdb.dbo.sysmail_faileditems; select * from msdb.dbo.sysmail_log –  jl01 Feb 22 '12 at 15:18

When you send a test mail it will use your credentials. Jobs are run (by default) as the SQL Server Agent account.

Your Agent account probably does not have rights to send mail. Try logging in as your Agent account, and see if you can send. If not, your fix is to get mail working on your Agent account.

I believe the account sending the email needs "relay" permissions in Exchange, so you may need to work with your Exchange admin.
