Database Administrators Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for database professionals who wish to improve their database skills and learn from others in the community. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I just came across Advantage Database Server (ADS) and its supposed use for Visual Foxpro Legacy programs.

We have been developing our accounting and payroll solutions in VFP and its DBF databases for more than 15 years, and these solutions are still being used by our clients. And our clients' main concern or issue is really data corruption (index corruption) to their files, especially when the transactions are getting voluminous.

Is my understanding correct that there is a way for us to "upsize" our database (dbc) using ADS and our problems with data corruption will go away, even without us changing a single line of code in our current program? and will continue to use the VFP DBF (while ADS will act like a "Big Brother" in the background making sure that corruption will be avoided, or at least minimized?)

Of course, this solution is for the short term, and we would like to harness the full capabilities of ADS as a database engine in the future, and will do an upgrade or revision of our programs in the near future.

Hope someone can help point us in the right direction if this is a valid understanding, and if there are any documentation that will guide us step by step on how to do this.

Thank You. WFC / Philippines
