I've built and installed a SQL database and client application. It all works well generally, but intermitently (normally first thing each morning), the client application reports an Error 26 - error locating server instance. Each time this is resolved by Restarting the SQL Server Browser on the server. It is as if SQL Server Browser stops running over night.

I have SQL Server Browser startup set to 'Automatic' so I fail to see why it would keep stopping in this way.

Has anyone encountered this issue before, or have any ideas what might be causing it?

Check the event log on the server (both Application and System). There should be a record indicating why the service stopped. – tobias86 Oct 11 '12 at 10:50
