I have an existing database with 1 kb page size i want to increase that to 16kb and increase cache to take advantage of my memory for best performance. sybase documentations said you can't change page size of database but you can create new empty database with preferred page size, so how can i move my data to from old db to new database with big page size ?

What performance problems are you facing? Locks? How much data are you dealing with? –  Phil Nov 13 '12 at 1:22

the system design is so bad so bad , when user make a search for a name it may takes 2 minutes to finish and it hangs up(not responding) during this period, another problem that happen frequently that connected users stay connecting and logged off users cannot login with error message "cann't find database server", this is solved by only one thing is to restart engine or the whole server, the problems happen especially when there are a lot of clients at the same time(about 30 PCs at average) –  ahmedsafan86 Nov 13 '12 at 6:50

I'm not certain I understand how changing the page size of your database is going to solve the few problems you listed here. For example, it won't help an issue with having hit the max number of connections. –  SQLRockstar Nov 13 '12 at 14:15

Are you refering to sql anywhere or sybaseASE ? –  Kin Jul 11 '13 at 15:02

@Ahmedsafan have you looked at bcp out and bcp in. That might help you as you have to just create a new database with correct page size and then bcp out the data from the old one and then bcp in the data in the new database. –  Kin Jul 16 '13 at 13:05

Take a look at the dbunload utility, particularly the -an and -ap switches. You didn't say what version you are using, but here are the docs on v12.0.1.

I used the dbunload and it gave an error message saying page size is very big, i used sybase central to unload the database the wizard disable the radio buttons for choosing page size –  ahmedsafan86 Nov 14 '12 at 12:22
