We can move data using backup-copy-restore and detach/attach, right. But what are the reasons for moving these data. I'd think we move data to another environment for recovery purpose or to build data warehouse. what are some other examples?

I voted to close this question as it is overly broad. The reasons are technically infinite. Are you trying to justify a more/less portable solution? Perhaps you should use chat to help focus your question into something that can be answered in a more concrete way. – Leigh Riffel Nov 30 '12 at 21:08
its same as, why you move your pics from camera to pc, and/or move data from pc to cd/tape etc., – AmDB Dec 1 '12 at 8:25
