I need some help! I have a scenario of oracle 10gR2 database replication using data guard. I have selected the data guard command line interface. After my initial setup I can ship and apply logs from the primary database to the standby db. DGMGRL shows that configuration and databases have been set with SUCCESS. But, when I try to switch to the standby instance I take the following errors and nothing happened. I believe that there is a luck of settings on the database parameters.

DGMGRL> switchover to 'INTER';
Performing switchover NOW. Please wait...
Error: ORA-16751: Resource guard encountered errors in switchover to primary
Failed.
Can not proceed to switchover. Primary is still "MILAN".
DGMGRL> show database 'MILAN' 'LogXptStatus';
Error: ORA-16777: unable to find the destination entry of a standby in V$ARCHIV_DEST
DGMGRL> show database 'MILAN' 'StatusReport';

Could anyone show me the required database parameters that have to be set in order to switch to the standby database and continue shipping and applying logs to the primary db (primary now as standby)?

Thank you in advance for you help!

This question came from our site for professional and enthusiast programmers.

Which was initially the primary before you started any testing? Milan or Inter? –  Phil Jan 12 '13 at 0:06

MILAN is the primary database. And this was initially open as primary. –  SWE Jan 13 '13 at 12:57

... and are you seeing logs marked as applied (on the correct dest_id for the standby) in v$archived_log? –  Phil Jan 13 '13 at 13:03

The problem is that the primary database after the switchover remains primary (mouted) and standby remains standby (mounted). Swithover fails with the following error. DGMGRL> switchover to 'INTER'; Performing switchover NOW. Please wait... Error: ORA-16772: Error in switching over between primary and standby databases Failed. Can not proceed to switchover. Primary is still "MILAN". –  SWE Jan 13 '13 at 13:33
