Database Administrators Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for database professionals who wish to improve their database skills and learn from others in the community. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I want to start reading up on the latest advances in database technology. Can anyone tell me what are the leading academic journals on the subject?

Also, I have a friend doing a PhD in another area and he recommended that I should start with "Yearly Review" type write-ups as they give a good, unbiased overview of the developments in the past year. So if anyone knows where I can find any Reviews in the area of Database Systems I would be interested in hearing about them.

This is an interesting question, but it is too much like a "What’s your favorite..." to work well with this Q&A format. – Jack Douglas Feb 5 at 9:06

I quite like the IEEE knowledge and data engineering periodical. See http://www.ieee.org/publications_standards/publications/periodicals/new_titles.html but there are lots of other special interest areas too.

Another good starting point is vldb.org, or databasejournal.com if you are interested in something slightly less schoraly.

I found the Journal of Data Analysis and Information Processing, but it's still being developed: http://www.scirp.org/journal/jdaip

Thanks.
