is there any tool to shrink SQL Anywhere Databases?

With MSSQL/MSSQL Express it was an easy task. Just do it, have a faster DB again which has a size which can be transferred over a slow internet connection.

But how can this be achieved with that Sybase thing?

P.S. No - the question is not wether you should shrink or not - it is how it is done. So please don't quote things like "you should not" from Pinal.

You can't shrink sql anywhere databases online. The "correct" way to do it is to unload/reload it in a new database.

It's easy to do it via sybase central. Via command line it is the dbunload command with the -an command line switch:

A shrinked database it not by default faster than a "not shrinked" database.

we transfer them (seldomly) for debugging customer prblems over internet. Some GB less can save litereally save weeks). With MSSQL we also had a good impact on performance with shrink. There seems to be some DBs who can shrink and have performance improvements and other who have problems wiht references etc.pp. –  Offler Jun 10 '13 at 10:55
    
sql anywhere has no problems with shrinked databases, they will just work without any problems. It depends on many factors if you will see performance improvements. For example you can reorder data based on the primary key, this gives you better performance if you often retrieve reows in that order. Another factor are the % of partially filled or "overfilled" pages in the database. It's just not possible to predict if your case will benefit from a small DB. –  André Schild Jun 10 '13 at 12:17
