Database Administrators Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for database professionals who wish to improve their database skills and learn from others in the community. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a secondary (.ndf) file that has grown out of control and filled a disk.

Now when I query the DB settings using select * FROM sys.database_files max_size is -1 (File will grow until the disk is full) but growth is 0 (File is fixed size and will not grow).

Is this expected? Or has someone changed a setting after the fact? These two settings appear to be in conflict with each other - how do they interact?
