Database Administrators Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for database professionals who wish to improve their database skills and learn from others in the community. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I had to import an dump file to an oracle 11.2 express database instance.

The target instance uses AL16UTF16 for the national character set encoding, but the source instance uses UTF8. So the problem is, that rows where rejected on import because AL16UTF16 uses twice as many bytes as UTF8 an the column can't take the row values.

I think it is the easiest way to change the national character set encoding, but how do I do that?

I tried to use csscan an csalter for altering the encoding but I think that isn't available in the express instance.

Thanks for your help.

Did you read the manual? docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28298/… –  Munchi Jun 20 '13 at 17:52
