I am getting the above error message when i try to run the setup file.

The operating system on this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for SQL Server 2012. For Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 operating systems, Service pack 2 or later is required. For windows 7 or windows server 2008R2, Service pack 1 or later is required. For more information, see Hardware and software requirements for installing SQL Server 2012 at

I downloaded from the site - the software is - "SQL Server Express with Advanced Services (contains the database engine, Express Tools, Reporting Services, and Full Text Search)"

I am running windows 7 professional, below are my system information,

  • processor - Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5870 @ 2GHz
  • RAM - 2 GB

I am confused why this error is appearing :( I tried with SQL Server 2012 Enterprise edition too.. same error. Please help me in this regard..

Do you have Service Pack 1 installed for Windows 7? – hallie Nov 21 '13 at 5:29
You have posted the hardware specs, but that isn't what the error is complaining about. Please post the full Operating system information. – Bill Hurt Nov 21 '13 at 5:30
