It's possible to avoid dirty read on a MySql database by using a PHP script? i have three two fields (user, incoming_request , outcoming_request) on my table that keep information (as string) about some in and out request between users. when a user (A) send a request to another one (B), i need to update outcoming_request field of A, and incoming_request field of B. i would that while this table update it's running, no others read query could be performed on incoming_request and outcoming_request A and B field. How can i do?

Should we assume your table uses InnoDB or MyISAM? –  Michael - sqlbot Dec 18 '13 at 12:02
