This afternoon i was working with an old datalink defined to transfer data from one database to other.

It's the first time i've worked with this 'trick'. We use an specific user to work with the database link (user TRANSF). My questions :

1) I know the password of the TRANSF user. But when i define/create the database link i can't put the password in clear. I obtained an error message and the database links were not created. I put the encrypted password which i obtained from the dab_users table, password column. Is this correct ? I cannot put the password in clear in the database link ? Why ?

2) After creating the database link with the encrypted password, i tried to execute a simple query which looks to the other database, obtaining this annoying error message.

Query: SELECT COUNT(*) FROM CPLL35.BKUPDATA@PLACEX

Database Link:

CREATE DATABASE LINK "PLACEX"
   CONNECT TO "TRANSF" IDENTIFIED BY VALUES 'xxxxxx'
   USING '(DESCRIPTION =(ADDRESS_LIST =(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = myserver.ush.com)(PORT = 1521)))(CONNECT_DATA = (SID = SPAPA) (SERVER = DEDICATED)))';

Error Message:

SQL> 35127530 : map : Permission Denied
SELECT COUNT(*) FROM CPLL35.BKUPDATA@PLACEX
                                     *
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [kzdlk_zt2 err], [18446744073709551603], [], [], [], [], [], []

UPDATE:

Following the blog entry that Phil posted in the first commentaire. Now my problem is how to obtained the password of the TRANSF user. It's clear than password picked for dba_users table didn't match with expected password. In the blog entry the user's password which works is longer than than previous password definition.

Did you read and try the suggestion in the blog post? There's nothing else you can do if you don't know the password. I quote from the blog post Use of IDENTIFIED BY VALUES is reserved for internal Oracle use only. . –  Phil Jan 30 at 10:19

I know the password cause i changed it yesterday (user TRANSF). And i can change all the passwords i needs, i'm doing some tests. I can also delete and recreate the datalink as i need.My problem how to obtained the correct encrypted password. I read the article and tried the query select dbms_metadata.get_ddl('DB_LINK',db_link,owner)||';' from dba_db_links; with the correct data obtaining the same create query for the database links as i used yesterday to create de datalink. –  Jorge Vega Sánchez Jan 30 at 10:25
