Yesterday i've had many problems trying to import a big dump file with only 9 tables but many rows in each table.

In common use the undo tablespace has a size of 1.5 Gb. But when trying to import the dump file i obtained the following error message :

IMP-00058: ORACLE error 30036 encountered
ORA-30036: unable to extend segment by 8 in undo tablespace 'UNDO'

I solved the error increasing 7 times the size of the undo tablespace but would love to know if there is any rule to know the undo tablespace size.

Dump filesize : 19.5 Gb Undo Tablespace size: 23 Gb.

Do the imp command a commit when finishing a table import ? Do the commit command a flush or free in the undo tablespace ? Is there any manual way to free the undo tablespace ?
