Database Administrators Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for database professionals who wish to improve their database skills and learn from others in the community. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm using a MySQL 5.6.13 instance on RDS and accidentally wiped all the data in it (something like 2.5GB). I used the restore to point-in-time feature to recover all the data and it only recovered the data from the initial backup.

The initial backup is scheduled to run at 9:00 and the point-in-time restoration was set at 13:03 and I lost all the data in between.

Anyone have any idea of why that happened?

What can I do to avoid this in the future?
