Can somebody help me how to analyse the DBCC SHOWCONTIG output for a table.

Before:

Table: 'table1' (795); index ID: 0, database ID: 7
TABLE level scan performed.
- Pages Scanned................................: 1914
- Extents Scanned..............................: 240
- Extent Switches..............................: 239
- Avg. Pages per Extent........................: 8.0
- Scan Density [Best Count:Actual Count].......: 100.00% [240:240]
- Extent Scan Fragmentation ...................: 33.75%
- Avg. Bytes Free per Page.....................: 41.4
- Avg. Page Density (full).....................: 99.49%

After rebuild/reorganize the index and enabling page compression:

Table: 'table1' (795); index ID: 0, database ID: 7
TABLE level scan performed.
- Pages Scanned................................: 804
- Extents Scanned..............................: 102
- Extent Switches..............................: 101
- Avg. Pages per Extent........................: 7.9
- Scan Density [Best Count:Actual Count].......: 99.02% [101:102]
- Extent Scan Fragmentation ...................: 19.61%
- Avg. Bytes Free per Page.....................: 60.9
- Avg. Page Density (full).....................: 99.25%

What is to be analyzed? What should be done next for maintenance and why?

What does "What I have done is taking maintenance job of a table before and after a month" mean? –  Mark Storey-Smith Jun 23 at 7:40

This means rebuild/reorganize the index ,page compression as compare to month of May and taken in June –  rohan Jun 23 at 7:53

I don't understand what you are asking. You enabled page compression so your table now consumes less space. Before compression 1914 pages / 15.3MB, after compression 804 pages / 6.5MB. –  Mark Storey-Smith Jun 23 at 9:06

DBCC SHOWCONTIG has been deprecated for eons. Use sys.dm_db_index_physical_stats instead. –  Jon Seigel Jun 23 at 13:59
