Database Administrators Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for database professionals who wish to improve their database skills and learn from others in the community. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm seeing a performance issue in a 3rd party application based on SQLAnywhere 7. The DB engine seems to be dramatically underperforming on the hardware provided. It seems to have a upper limit on the rate of data coming out of it, though it is not limited by storage, memory or CPU. I have exhausted the operating system-level tools and need to get some idea of what the engine is doing. Are there any options for instrumenting or tuning it? Since I'm approaching this as a sysadmin, not a developer, any tools in the SDK are not available to me.

Can you post the parameters used when the database engine is started? They may give a clue as to why performance is neing limited - also an outline of the hardware spec (ie xGB RAM 2 dual core processors etc –  Justin W Jul 14 '14 at 10:01
