Why does ANSI SQL define SUM(no rows) as NULL?
The ANSI SQL standard defines (chapter 6.5, set function specification) the following behaviour for aggregate functions on empty result sets:
COUNT(...) = 0
AVG(...) = NULL
MIN(...) = NULL
MAX(...) = ...
