comment Restoring a database, changing recovery model
NO, Recovery Mode of a database can be changed without taking backup. Possibly you have mixed up common advice that, one must take a full backup before changing recovery mode to SIMPLE, because by doing this you make sure that all data is secure. If you will not do so, taking tail log backup is not possible and you can loss any changes made after last transnational backup.

comment DBCC CheckDB causing high values for resource_semaphore wait type
Sorry DenisT, but RESOURCE_SEPHORE really creating problem for other queries request. In our case RAM is only 24 GB and workload must spill over to TempDB. Is there any possibility that problem is on wrong estimation of memory for DBCC CHECKDB process i.e. 5TB in my case and we have only 300 GB space on drive and it is unable to spill over workload to TempDB ?

comment sys.fn_varbintohexstr returns NULL if varbinary data is more then 2000 as datalength
Yes, it works find on SQL Server 2008 and above. For SQL Server 2005, following method resolved this issue. select CAST('' AS XML).value('xs:hexBinary(sql:variable("@testvarbinary"))', 'VARCHAR(MAX)')
