comment Oracle 11g varchar2 datatype with date and time as YYYY/MM/DD-HH24:MI:SS:FF3
Does the app maintain the field or just query it? If the latter, you could add a new timestamp to replace this column and recreate the column LastUPDATE as a virtual column.

Also: Why don't you have a primary key on your table? Please add it and remove the and rownum < 2. These are very bad practices!

First of all, this seems to me like an Openfire admin topic: have you asked on an Openfire forum?

comment Update table from different table
I wouldn't add ROWNUM = 1 unless for a single row of the table you're trying to update all rows returned by the subquery have the same values. In that case adding DISTINCT to the subquery would have the same functional effect. So add DISTINCT first. If you still get the same error, than adding ROWNUM = 1 is dangerous as you are selecting the first row of multiple where they are different...

Using MERGE won't help with this, @vegatripy

comment Update table from different table
You need to check the where clause in the subquery to make sure it is returning a single row for each row of the table you're trying to update. In my experience, looking at what the primary or unique keys are helps a lot.

First of all: This is not a syntax error as your statement is syntactically valid SQL.
