Beauty is more important in computing than anywhere else in technology because software is so complicated. Beauty is the ultimate defence against complexity. - David Gelernter

Hilarious. Even as a .NET developer.

comment Saving passport information
@mustaccio That's exactly what I'm asking for. The agencies itself would like to store everything that's readable on a passport, but what I'm asking for is the information that's printed in them, regardless of the issuing country. I guess I'm not the first with this "problem", so this should've been done sometime before?

comment Constraint spanning several tables
What would change if it should be possible to own more than one product at a time? In your post you assumed that'd be not possible, but let's assume it would be. What would change?

Adding a column Comment to the Votes table (like you said in another answer) is also a good idea. Thank you! I might also add that these votes are cast on a specific ProductVersion rather than the Product itself. And the overall Products likes/dislikes/votes/whatever is the sum of all the versions votes... If that makes sense? ;)

So, then I'd have like two identity columns, one auto-incrementing for each version and the other one constant throughout a single customer? And this constant value is going to be used as a reference then?

comment The correct way of representing folders
Yes, just like any other filesystem: File/Folder move, rename, delete, update should be possible. What do I need to retrieve fast? All of it. How many files? n.
