UK based SQL Server professional and enthusiast. I work with, and am passionate about all aspects of SQL Server including the Database Engine and the BI stack, especially SSIS, but my real passion is SQL Server Internals, with my favourite blogger being the legend that is Paul Randle.
Career wise, I am a gun for hire, specialising in OLTP and DataWarehouse performance and ETL. I have experience in BIG data (80TB), FastTrack, and exposure to PDW.

Change SQL Server 2012 Version from registry? Thanks but as Aaron says above, there will be nothing in the registry to read at this point. My comment refering to registry was more about - If the version cannot be selected during the silent instal, can it be chaned post install |

Running queries against multiple servers @AaronBertrand the infrastructure concern is that what I am writing is essentially a different application, and from both seurity and architecture any link between apps should be loosly coupled, ideally through Biztalk. This is increased because an external team will be supporting the main app. I can convince SSIS (or PS as Thoas suggested) because it "kind of" fits this model, where as Linked Servers are synchronous and as far as infrastructure would be concerned, turn the main app into a landing zone. Additionally, I need a way to "plug-in" additional servers with minimal effort. |

Running queries against multiple servers @AaronBertrand & Thomas - I can't use linked servers because of unfounded security concerns. I may need to resort to SSIS I guess |

Running queries against multiple servers Thanks. I though about this, but I want to save the results to a table on the "Master Server". From what I understand, this will not work, baring in mind I cannot create linked servers. Is my assumption correct? |

Why do we need to rebuild and reorganize Indexes in SQL Server Yes, that is correct. You can actually use server agent to respond to low CPU usage on the server by starting a job. This job could contain your index rebuild scripts. Also, if you are in a 24/7 environment, I suggest you write a script that only reorganises or rebuilds the indexes that actually require it, rather than rebuilding all. |

SQL Server 2008 Performance issue with very strange resolution Ok, have you considered outside influence, such as firewall or antivirus. If defiantly internal to SQL, set up an Extended Event session that you can then query after the event. It's very lightweight and you should be able to leave it running, unlike a traditional trace |

SQL Server using incorrect plan @richrdthekiwi - thanks, the team are investigating this, but I don't understand why the SET options would be different? same machine, .NET guys tell me nothing being passed explicitly in the connection string? |
