SELECT COL_NAME(969262708, ORDINAL_POSITION) returns a NULL value in one of the rows @mattedgod SQLFiddle won't show anything here. It's data related. |

Restoring SQL Server 2012 database onto 2008 You can use SSIS to pump data between the two servers, assuming they can see each other |

Extract part of string based on nth instance of character There's something wrong (minor) with the answer - running it verbatim returns Wednesday etc for s.rn=6, not ServerA etc as the result shows. |

Is this table in 3NF? @Mike Perhaps in the purest sense with just these 5 fields you may be right. I had half-assumed there were other attributes or perhaps in future more would be added to each distinct entity. City would have its own GPS location and mayor_id, State would have boundary (geo-polygon) etc. The transitive dependency then becomes clearer -> person (id) is related to country only by way of state and state through city. Transitive dependencies lead to redundant data hence the point of normalisation. If person is tie-broken using id, why doesn't it also apply to city_id? |

update statement with self join Perhaps to be unambiguous, you'll need to prepend the LHS of the SET clause, e.g. SET a1.col1=a2.col1, a1.col2=a2.col2,... following the syntax in example 3 in the manual |

Which version of SQL Server server does a small business run for 2012 If you're pricing that for an 8-core or 2-processor x 4 -core, then the price is about right. Each 2 cores will require a license pack (which only come in 2-core packs). Rough prices are at the level you state. Having said that if you're a "medium company", you can get by with a quad-core or even dual-core box for your sharepoint needs. |
