Database developer for SQL-Server and ORACLE. Doing a lot with PowerShell.

I'm German and it is now only 4 years that I started bloging (in english) and now i'm contributing to several OpenSource Projects. Codeplex SQLPSX is the most important of them. There I'm porting SQLIse to Oracle and now to MySQL too.

If your are interested in databases and PowerShell (or other ways to use ADO.NET) please visit: http://sqlpsx.codeplex.com/

comment Downsides to using SQL 2012 Upgrade as opposed to a fresh install?
Thanks for the hint to upgrade the databases. At this point in time it is easy to use the upgrade advisor to check them for incompatible items. You better do the same when you attach your databases to a fresh installed server.

comment Should I use SQL JOIN or IN Clause?
Might depend on DBMS. I know for sure that SQL-Server is optimizing Select *. (cf. Itzik Ben-Gan in Microsoft® SQL Server® 2012 T-SQL Fundamentals)

Sounds reasonable.

@ErikE you can't drop the database you are connected to. Usually you connect to master and drop the other database.

comment Is there a setting to force an error when asigning a varchar longer than a variable?
I do not want to change other peoples scripts, I want to to force the system to trow errors when I have to run the script.
