Is pureXML a key feature you intend to use or is it just something that DB2 provides?

Scalable to what? To serve a single hospital to serve a group of hospitals? You may also ask such questions on healthcareit.stackexchange.com/questions which is currently in public beta.

comment Are there ways to only replace SQL Server stored procedures when the definition has changed?
I have to replace procedures with *= syntax by left join syntax and it is not granted that all customers have the same version due to customizing. I want to apply the fix to only those who have the version I modified

I agree with that argument. But please see my last edit.

comment What specifically does OracleBulkCopy do, and how can I optimize its performance?
I have a PowerShell skript running, calling bulkcopy into an Oracle database from an SQL Server data reader, all target tables with primary Keys and I have no problems with tables with up to 205278 rows. But I'm very careful to first full the master tables before filling the details tables. I did not remove any of the other index on the table and I have no problems when the tables are initially empty.

I'm not sure about checking primary key constraints. I happed to bulk insert the same data into an Oracle table 2 times and Select * shows 2 the duplicated rows. In that state Delete is not possible, but truncate table helps to get back to a clean state.

Are you using a DataReader to read the data from the source?

comment How to find “outer join in the where” syntax in SQL 2005 using cmptlevel 80?
I always felt that replacing the server is the only right moment to fix that problems. Are you saying that there is a tool that would have helped?

My problem is the display of the result. QueryAnalyzer and SSMS have bad habits of truncating the result. BTW the offending code must be fund. Artefacts ignored -- keep *= as comment to make work harder and the rest must manually fixed.

comment How do I create a database+tablespace+user in Oracle 11gR2?
Yes XE has no Database Configuration Assistant. I have an x86 Version of XE running in XP. It uses some WEB interface for Configuration. Without trying I can't predict how your version behaves under Windows 8. The next few days I have no resources to check that.

comment Is 'Avoid creating a clustered index based on an incrementing key' a myth from SQL Server 2000 days?
+1 for giving that link. There are some interesting hints there. But I think the result would be much more convincing, if he had compared the the given scenario with one with create nonclustered index cidx_trantime on tblTransactions (TranTime) or some other alternative. Remember when you generate such a lot of data there must be efficient ways to retrieve the data, you can't just throw every thing into a heap.

comment Can I enable SQLCMD mode from inside a script?
I'm using SSMS 2008 R2 and there the 2 lines produce: Meldung 102, Ebene 15, Status 1, Zeile 1 Incorrect syntax near ':'. Using SQL Server 2000 Query Analyzer you need to use RAISERROR.

For ssms the first 2 lines would be enough and for sql 2000 Query Analyzer it works, but the message is not displayed.
