Database developer for SQL-Server and ORACLE. Doing a lot with PowerShell.

I'm German and it is now only 4 years that I started bloging (in english) and now i'm contributing to several OpenSource Projects. Codeplex SQLPSX is the most important of them. There I'm porting SQLIse to Oracle and now to MySQL too.

If your are interested in databases and PowerShell (or other ways to use ADO.NET) please visit: http://sqlpsx.codeplex.com/

comment Can I implement a 'gapless' identity column in Oracle?
In Oracle I can get rid of the id + 1 self join, as its analytical functions contain lead() and lag(), but that makes the code different for SQL Server and Oracle. And yes this is a problem of the remaining 20%.

I guess you have to do it the other way round, cache more values than you will use in a given case. But how much is that?

In SQL Server I do things like: select * from #tmp t1 join #tmp t2 on t1.id = td2.id + 1.

comment ORA-01502: index or partition of such index is in usable state problem
Perhaps I misinterpreted the preceding sentence: During an Oracle bulk copy, the following constraints are automatically enabled by default:NOT NULL, UNIQUE, PRIMARY KEY (unique-constraints on not-null columns). The problem is that Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleBulkCopy contrary to Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy has no BulkCopyOption CheckConstraints, which makes it difficult to use.

comment Can I change the SID of an Oracle database?
+1 But I'm still unsure whether I want to change the DB_NAME too.

comment Recovering from: A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server in SSMS
It seems to depend. If the connection to the server was lost, it goes to the default catalog, if only the connection to the database was lost, it reconnects to this database. (tested on SQL Server 2008)

Why not deneme1-masa1, deneme2-masa2, deneme3-masa3. Please describe the expected output in a clear way. What if Personal and Masa contain different number of rows?

I tried your code on SQL Server 2008 and got no error. Which DBMS are you using. Do you get an error or do you get the wrong result?

You have different format in a single column? How do you know if 01/04/2011 means April 1 or January 4 ?

Tested on 2008. I think it works on 2005 too.

Thanks, for Oracle that is fine. I hope to get a SQL Server version too.

comment How can I tell if my SQL Server DB performance is hardware-limited?
If your queries could take advantage of Analytical Functions, sql server 2000 is definitely software-limited.

comment How to handle multiple Oracle homes?
@Leight Riffel. It's OK. In some cases one wants to evaluate different client releases and than is the hour for such tools.

I would really prefer, to install all the components into one Oracle folder, than to have to switch homes.
