comment Converting multiple SQL implicit joins into explicit joins
I have updated by question with my understanding of your algorithm.. It's too long to read :). Here is where I am stuck - for "c.c_id = h.c_id(+)" => c LEFT JOIN h. But above we are not getting all the records of c to participate in the join with h, ..correct?

comment Converting multiple SQL implicit joins into explicit joins
Hi @siride, as mentioned I am looking for example/guides/formal specs on how to resolve this. Consider: Line 3,4: c LJ h; Line 5,6: h LJ g - now how do I combine these two..? c LJ h <LJ/RJ/IJ> h LJ g - doesn't seem right..

comment Why does Oracle SQL*Plus consider two queries executed together on the command line as a syntax error?
Thanks for including the link to the documentation Phil! That clears it for me.. as when I run multiple queries in a Program window in PLSQL developer, it is intelligent enough to execute each one separately.

comment Is it recommended to run a Oracle schema backup when there are active sessions?
Hi @JackDouglas - multiple applications use the DB and the app I am working with uses just 2 of the schema's in the DB. So we go with a schema export. Thanks for the link, looking into RMAN

comment Is it recommended to run a Oracle schema backup when there are active sessions?
Hi @Mat - we finally decided to go with expdp as it copies empty tables as well, otherwise skipped by exp due to Oracle's Deferred Segment Creation. Other then that, I am not sure how expdp is better than exp for copying a schema in use by active sessions.

Hi @Phil, thanks. Row count can be in the millions but there are about 50 varchar2 columns-so that can be a lot of data.. Well I expect that INSERTs would slow down after the table was partitioned due to the additional overhead of managing the partitions. The problem here, is that I don't know of a way to measure the cost of inserts versus partitioning..
