No, that's the point. Login is not possible with no password: 10:41:12 ~$ mysql -uroot --port=3311 ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) Commands such as "service mysql restart" are for the system's regular mysql process. I am initializing a separate database and starting a separate mysqld instance.
