I am using the MEMORY storage engine but MySQL still writes to my disk…Why?
Thanks for your tips! The "file handle to the .frm" is exactly what the problem was. The write I/O was a result of repeated "DROP TABLE/CREATE TABLE" statements. I replaced those with "TRUNCATE TABLE" and the problem is gone.
