How do you document your databases? @CarolBakerWest The question wasn't so much about file formats, but rather "What content goes into such a thing" |

Why does Oracle hang on “ALTER TABLE ADD … NOT NULL”? @Phil: here were previously a large number of rows in the table, but these were removed by a "TRUNCATE TABLE" (which should have reset the HWM, unless I'm mistaken). |

Obtaining gratis copy of the SQL specification? While I appreciate the recommendation, and I do love to read Date & Darwen, this book isn't really relevant to the question; it's not available gratis, it doesn't cover the entire specification, and what it does cover has been superseded for more than a decade. |

What patch(es)/feature(s) to Oracle provide the column avg_hard_parse_time on v$sqlstats? @LeighRiffel The column simply does not exist. |

What makes an Oracle Applications DBA different from an Oracle DBA? That's correct - you need to be both a skilled Oracle DBA, as well as have a good knowledge of the particulars of their ERP. You can probably "get there" if you are an Apps DBA, but it's not trivial by any means. |
