Fetch first 9 records and make one more record which will be as “Others” in MySQL MySQL does not support the 'WITH' clause, or CTE's (see this MySQL bug. You'll need to move this to being an inline view instead. |

Tools to migrate from SQLite to PostgreSQL I have existing ETL jobs using Petaho's Kettle that do EXACTLY what this question is asking. It took a few weeks to get the job running really smoothly and setup good error-handling, but it's been running well for almost 2 years now. |

How to traverse a tree in SQL? Sybase edition Both Celko's book and closure tables (mentioned in my response to the original question) are usable in Sybase; for your specific problem, you might also consider using path enumeration (I don't have a handy reference to that one, but a bit of Googling should pay off). |

Obtaining gratis copy of the SQL specification? I appreciate the input - I am actually already comfortable with the engine-specific dialects of most of the popular engines out there, and wanted to branch out to understanding which parts of those engine-specific dialects are actually part of the standards, and which parts are not. |

Which collation should I choose for a muiti-language website? Thanks - I thought there were some of the Han characters or the like that were not supported in UTF-8, good to have a solid answer. |

Is there a performance gain by handling data with stored procedures versus feeding it into functions after retrieval? An excellent point about the optimizer. |

How do you document your databases? I'm curious to see what "database documentation" even looks like, aside from the obvious schema diagram. I have trouble envisioning what you would document and how. |

Which database engines will allow me to GRANT/REVOKE on a specific column? Thanks, Peter - I don't have a copy of the specification, so I wasn't sure if it was covered there. I do happen to know that Firebird nee Interbase does NOT support this, and last time I tried it in MySQL, it didn't work (admittedly, that was a while ago in MySQL terms). |

Are there any database engines which will intuit the join condition based on the existing foreign keys? No real "concern", just wondering if this is something anyone is looking into addressing. |
