comment How to rollback last executed sql script fired as sysdba
Be very sure that the objects that you are planning on deleting were actually created by the script. If you tried to created a table called SEQ$ then it would have failed, because one already exists under the SYS schema. You would definitely not want to drop it. Check using the DBA_OBJECTS view, and look at the CREATED column to check. On a cheery note, I've worked at some places where a mistake like this would have got you fired.

But importantly only by the primary key, not by other indexed column. If you have a meaningful primary key then you might be selecting by range, but for a synthetic primary key the benefits would really be incidental (eg. because you want all of the rows entered on a particular day, and they naturally cluster by PK if it was generated by a sequence).

How long do those operations currently take, and how long do you think they should take?

Yes, +1 for VM's. VirtualBox is great in general -- I use it for RoR/PostgreSQL development on Ubuntu. Easier than installing Enterprise Edition.

Hmmm, a lot of answers are attracting uncommented downvotes on here I see.

Yes, PL/SQL is integral to the database. If you're looking for something easy to install to learn with then I'd suggest Express Edition.

No, but it might not have all the latest patches available to someone with a support account. For general functionality it's the same

@Joram commiting between operations is likely to promote a "snapshot-too-old" error and slow the process down. Better to size the undo correctly.

comment Selecting from a function that returns a sys refcursor or an alternative
As a side issue, if these are social security numbers then storing them as numerics is probably not the best choice. Numerics are for performing mathematical functions on the data, and you're probably never going to do that. However you might want to blank all but the last four digits with "X", and that is a string operation. You can easily validate that a string is just a series of digits.
