This is where the ref integrity of the second table would come into play though, the data entry people would not be ble to enter a value unless it existed in the areas table? I'm just interested in your perspective, since you definitely have more DB experience than I do :)

@Mike Sherrill 'Catcall', out of interest, with this design, if an additional area was added 'E', they would need to midify the seats table to accommodate? So, this soution is best if we know for certain the area would not change, but 2 tables if the areas need to be flexible?
