comment What are the dangers of non-IT managers using improper database terminology
The other site would be a better fit because you can replace the idea of databases in the question with anything (i.e., "my boss doesn't understand how to communicate about x"). If the question doesn't get migrated automatically, I would encourage you to repost it on that site (perhaps making it a bit more generic per my example); I think this is an interesting and important question.

comment Quickly restore test/QA SQL Server database
Good answer. For people finding this later, I want to draw attention to the Limitations and Restrictions section in that article -- the database as restored from a snapshot may not be restored to exactly the state one might expect (in particular, the behaviour around fulltext indexes). Snapshots are a great starting point for this type of solution, though.

comment Corruption in D:\$MFT. How may this progress? I don't think CHECKDB is useful here?
CHECKDB won't be able to resolve the problem, but it will tell you if part of the database can't be read from disk. Just knowing that may be very important in this situation.

comment Slow SQL Server authentication, but fast SAN, fast querying?
It's probably set too high; try lowering it. See my blog post here for more info: voluntarydba.com/post/2013/03/19/…

Swap file should never be used by SQL Server. You need to lower the maximum memory setting (or establish one if it's set to the default, which is unlimited). Fix this (reboot the box after changing it), and if that doesn't solve the problem, let us know.
