Use CASE to select columns in UPDATE query? Thanks to both of you for the tips, in my case the single update statement worked fine. |

Use CASE to select columns in UPDATE query? Thanks for the tip about everything being updated, if this is slow, I may take @Colin 't Hart's suggestion to have multiple update statements. |

Use CASE to select columns in UPDATE query? Thanks for the answer. I've added some more information to my question, I hope it's understandable. That's a good alternative with multiple update statements (I'd prefer one update statement, but I see there's an advantage there). |

What joins are available in Informix 9.2? @ypercube: Newer versions of Informix have LEFT, RIGHT, and FULL outer joins. I mentioned OUTER JOIN and OUTER referring to different possibilities for the syntax, not different joins. @RolandoMySQLDBA: Thanks for jumping in with an example and link. |

Postgres Client - save table sorting Yes, that would be an alternative, if no other client offers what I'm looking for. |

Postgres Client - save table sorting Sure, I use pgadmin3, and if I open a table and then sort using certain columns, the sorting is gone when I close the table. I'm looking for a client that can save this information so that the sorting remains when I reopen the table. |

See actual results of SQL UPDATE command Thanks, and now I see there's also something similar in Postgres, the RETURNING clause. |

Is there a way to access temporary tables of other sessions in postgres? Thanks for the tip. I was able to find out the name and schema for the temporary table using dbvis (which probably uses the first query you mentioned), but the problem was that I couldn't access them from a session other than the one they were created in. |
