comment Postgres: trying to fix some unicode encoding issues
Brilliant! This works on the \u0080 characters, I just need to replace the odd characters before that now. psql is printing those on resultsets as It<C3><A2>s, so I'm assuming I'm just looking for unicode chars c3 and a2? Google tells me these characters equate to â, but I'm not sure what escape sequence I need to use to find this - \uc3a2?

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I'm just concerned that restoring as msdb might mess some other bits and pieces up on the new server. I'll read through your other answers to get a bit more insight.

Just to clarify, do you mean restore msdb as msdb? Or restore it under some other temporary name, and pull the jobs manually out of the tables?

Just to clarify and confirm - if I use ALTER DATABASE that will enable READ_COMMITTED_SNAPSHOT for all select statements, regardless of their source? edit just read this is the case. I'll keep a sharp eye on tempdb.
