Row_number and wrapping select ? Martin , top(1) is PER partition...right ? ( I did see in the fiddle) but didnt know it is possible. ( just making sure). ALSO , I could also use top(2) which will provide the 2 oldest. so ...where is the catch (you wrote generally...)? |

Sql server update query locking stages? But if the second query of yours got an update lock and now it is waiting for the first query to complete , and now ( after the first one is finished) - the where clause does not match any rows ? I mean : let's say that the first query of yours is update HumanResources.Department
set name = 'This is a new name' , Departmentid=12
where DepartmentID = 11;.....so now the second query thinks it is going to update some rows(it's waiting to get execlusive lock !) , but now there arent any rows of departmentid=11.....will it scan the table it again ? |

SQL Server Profiler behavior? Thanks mike. i truly hope it doesn't throw if it wasn't told to...:-) |

SQL Server Profiler behavior? ps there is a difference in your answer between captured or sent ( it is not the same thing). Sql throws a ball(an sp has executed). I dont care who is catching the ball( trace) I just ask if sql trully throws the ball.(sending) even if there is no one to get the ball. |

SQL Server Profiler behavior? If you don't select the event, that event isn't captured or sent that helped. So if i do not select to monitor sp's , sql server will not throw events for sp's right? ( i dont care about who is catching those event , i just care if sql throw events of sp's) |

SQL Server Profiler behavior? After an event occurs, if the event class has been included in a trace definition... trace definition can contain (or not) event to listen. but does the event source EMITS IT at first place ? |

SQL Server Profiler behavior? @ThomasStringer I didnt understand from it if it emits all event from event source ! |
