Does creating an index on BIT(n) attribute in MySQL make sense? Thanks for this detailed answer! Yes, I understand that b-tree won't be able to help in searching values by predicate containing bitwise operations. I was though unsure how MySQL stores BIT attrs in InnoDB (sorry, I forgot to mention I am using InnoDB) and does it affect indexing or not. In fact, according to your answer, it appears that using BIT instead of other numeric types has the only advantage - convenience if you need a number of bits other than power of 2. |
