comment Converting RTF in a text column to plain text in bulk
Thanks for posting an answer detailing how to convert a library in to a safe library. I did not want to share what I did in my answer as the library I modified was GPL licensed (it appears to be COPL licensed now) and I was concerned sharing any changes could be "distributing" which would require me to do a lot more under the GPL.

@user22279 See the answer by Ian for a very similar steps to what I performed to make the library able to be marked as "SAFE".

Your change changes the output, FooId on FooQueue is not constrained to be unique so your version will now cause duplicate records to be returned. The select would need to be select distinct FooId, FooData from #t to get the same behavior as my original query.

One change I would suggest, replace ''' + name + ''' with ' + QUOTENAME(name,'''') + ' this will protect you in the event someone is weird enough to put a ' in their database name.

Oh yea, I am an avid user of SQL Sentry Plan Explorer.

comment Every query plan statistic says my query should be faster, but it is not
I need to report back the total number of rows returned across all pages, what is the correct way to do that then?

I am still kind of new to this, but won't a index that big put more pressure on the cache causing cache misses more often?

Hrmmm, I got the tuning advisor to come to the same conclusion. With all of those included columns the index's estimated size will be 4GB, and this is on our striped down dev database with only a subset of the live data on it.

comment Rollback the sql server data
Do you have backups of the database and what is the recovery model set to for the database (select recovery_model_desc from sys.databases where name = 'YourDatabaseName')

I guess what I want is not possible, oh well. I opened a feature request on connect to get it added.

Rolling back is not a issue, the goal I was after was instead of having 50 2GB databases I would have 1 2GB database and 50 200MB differential databases. From what I read about snapshots I don't think that will do what I want.
