@eggyal: I think I at least implicitly addressed the filesort concern. Because the query is returning all rows of the entire table, the optimizer chose to bypass the index, which is a perfectly sensible option in this case.

I think you're missing the point of clustering. There is one and only one shared database on your common drive. There is no "offline" copy of the database on the passive server.
