comment Schema Migration for application upgrades
If your app is hardcore OLTP you're going to need to do some benchmarking on a test environment. The data gets migrated using the triggers you create - you can do this [if the data is mutually exclusive - new columns, for example] before making the new edition live. (Covered in the blog post linked above, search for "DBMS_SQL").

comment cant pass table name as argument in a same procedure
Of course you need dynamic SQL. You can't just say "select * from tname" because the interpreter expects that to be an actual table name, not a variable. You'll have to use the working example that you give in your question. Something like select * from $tname (if it actually worked) would look messy, be hard to read (how would you know what was being selected), would have security implications (sql injection etc) and would be a nightmare for the parser (lots of hard parses, big CPU overhead), and would also encourage people to use it lots - all of a sudden it's all gone a bit PHP.

Please check the log output - do so, then edit the question with the errors

comment Why does this simple select statement require quotes?
Never use double quotes when creating objects! It will only lead to pain. Just an observation too... Be careful when dealing with SSNs - don't store them unless you absolutely have to

How fast is the network connection to the server you've mounted that directory from?

comment restoring huge MySQL database would location of sql file on a mount significantly slow restore (linux)
You haven't stated how fast the disks are, how big the SQL file is that you're trying to import, or the percentage completed after "all night" hours. As it stands, it's impossible to answer this question.

comment Oracle 12c installation error on windows 8.1 x64
I don't think Oracle 12c is yet certified to run on windows 8.1. Anyway, a google gives stackoverflow.com/questions/21546892/…

comment How to make a role from schema A “grantable” in schema B
Sounds like you might want to investigate the WITH GRANT OPTION and WITH ADMIN OPTION clauses of the GRANT command

comment TNS-12535: TNS:operation timeout
Being able to tnsping doesn't rule out a firewall problem. When you actually establish a real connection with a client the connection gets handed off and a random return TCP port is assigned. I've seen it cause firewall issues in the past

Are you sure the dump file was created with exp and not expdp? Try importing it with impdp

comment Adding new tables — memory usage increases
What is the exact problem you're having? You've configured mysql to use a certain amount of memory and it's using it. Do you want to restrict the amount if data cached?

Downloading the schema from a third-party websiteis not the best way to go about doing things. The other answer is correct

comment ORA-12516 but max_utilization not reaching limit
Is it possible that there is a firewall that's half dropping connections so the client application pool thinks there are less open connections, but Oracle still sees the connections as open and doesn't terminate the associated background processes? If you're using Unix you should be able to track this down with netstat.

comment Latitude and Longtitude Distance Calculation
I might be missing something, but to calculate distance for 2 (long, lat) pairs, don't you need to call the function for both in the select rather than just for the '-157.818079','21.260340' you've hardcoded?
