comment Warning before issuing delete/update command in mysql/oracle , then executes
In Oracle you can ROLLBACK. Anyway, sounds like a silly requirement. If you're unsure whether you want to run the update/delete, don't press enter in the first place!

@kupa You're misinformed. @ Ivan already told you the answer....

comment mysqldump file size changes drastically with repeated runs
I'm happy to be wrong ;) I'm not clued up on the internals of innodb storage, but ASCII flat files aren't an efficient way of storing things. When you add the old INSERT INTO blah VALUES parts to a dump generated by mysqldump, things grow significantly and explain the size difference

Are you sure the script isn't appending to the existing file? I bet it is and you'll be a bit embarrassed ;)

Are you running on Linux? If so, you want to use cron. The people on serverfault will be able to help you with that

comment What is the best way to model an invoicing system with different forms of invoice items?
Don't forget, you're going to need REFUNDS, ADJUSTMENTS etc. Plus you've completely ignored tax - if you're US based, that's an utter nightmare.

comment Why does Oracle still not support Multi-Row insert?
Yeah, see that recent Materiaised View question, it's a fine example!

Yeah, it's common.

comment Query with large number of or'ed predicates on the same column?
Do you have the paths in a table? Seems the logical and easy way to go, assuming I'm reading your question correctly (it's not really that clear)

comment DB2 Materialised Query Table performance problems
At the end of the day, every extra index means another write to a disk (be it SSD or spinny). Adding a materialised view means another write, and possibly more reads (depending on the MV). The overhead doesn't sound unreasonable.

Good spot! Definitely a bug Oracle need to fix.
