Why is my postmaster process (sometimes) becoming unmanageable after a WAL base restore?
can't start or stop postgres. can't access the database I restored via psql, and can't control the postmaster process I can see running in
ps
with anything other than kill -9.

I can psql into postgres, correct, but the postmaster is unmanageable, and there is only one directory containing a postgres database folder structure on the machine--I
grep
ed for it.

Nothing; it still registers the last transaction that occurred before the hang.
