comment Is this temp table behaviour documented?
I remembered something along these lines, just could not find the source (maybe should have tried it harder :)

This question appears to be off-topic because it is about an sqlfiddle bug.

comment Has postgresql a fast add column optimization?
There is no such thing. When you add a column without a default, it is fast (no actual change to the data pages). You can still win some on adding the default in the next step - this way you have to acquire row-level locks for the long operation, not an exclusive table-level one (as in the case of doing it in one step).

So what error did you get from the DROP statement?

Try to add some more data/dates and you will see your index being used. For a one row table it is much easier to read the whole table.

Hey, you could mark your answer as accepted, so the system does not bring it up from time to time as unresolved.

Also, fillfactor settings won't create additional indexes, never.

comment Best Approach to storing chat history?
Adding to @CraigRinger's comment, I am wondering if constantly updating the MongoDB document for a given chat is faster than storing rows in PostgreSQL (or fast enough for being a viable solution).

comment Order by distance
I was thinking that a point being inside a geometry or nor farther than a given distance may be more or less equivalent in some cases.

You can always try to fix it youorself. In this case you could simply pick a table alias (either r or g)...

Can you use the distance in your WHERE clause? Like comparing it with a threshold?

On one hand, I believe you cannot tell the standby where to stream the recieved WAL records. On the other hand, what you propose can possibly work. If you cannot archive the WAL on the master to a place where it is also available to the standby, this can be a solution. What you won't be able to influence is that, between two pauses, how much of the records will be applied. But then this is not that far from my suggestion where the delay is also like delay plusminus epsilon :)

Exactly. I don't see how this could be solved with streaming.
