Yeah, that's why I was +1 for IBM docs over "Standards". "Expected" vs "Actual" can, and most definitely will, bite you in the keister.

"If they behave by SQL standards" is a big if... IBM docs FTW.

comment Why use WHERE 1 or WHERE 1=1?
I write code similar to the first block in SSMS or similar query tools. Researching data sets and getting the right results before it gets put into reporting tools (like Crystal Reports) for end users. The second block is what I've seen other people do, since my job hasn't been too much about raw sql access. I've troubleshot other peoples similar code and can understand the reasoning. (Code was in VB, C# and PHP).

comment Are there any problems with deploying an SQL Server database to a production server by taking a backup?
@AaronBertrand Sometimes answering a question means pointing out answers to unasked or un-thought-of (word?) questions.

I see it now. Yeah, I meant they can each be individually wrong (and possibly more, but I don't want to try and match on 2 of 4 at this stage, unless requested). Sorry about that, can't edit the comment

Saw your edit to first comment. Added distinct counts. Not sure where you see "No matches" (maybe a corrected typo on my part as well? lol), but it should be 3 or 4 matches.

(Couple edits on my previous post for clarity) Well my idea is to use 3 of the 4... but you can have 4 of 4 match and DOB/SSN/First/Last can all be wrong, change (as in marriage/divorce), refused entry (Can refuse SSN)... So, in my mind, 5 possibilities: All match, different ID. 1 of 4 Doesn't match, different ID.

What do you mean "most selective"? The ID is unique. IndividualID is Not Null. Then you have Last/First/DOB/SSN - with associated typo's, empty/null, etc.
