Sebastian, thanks for the detailed answer. The table has a trigger so this solution didn't quite work. I was getting The target table 'tblSystem' of the DML statement cannot have any enabled triggers --if the statement contains an OUTPUT clause without INTO clause. I had to change it to DECLARE @val as table(val int); --...; OUTPUT INSERTED.LongValue into @val;
