Sebastian is the SQL Stylist at sqlity.net llc (http://sqlity.net). After receiving his PhD in Computer Science at the University of Linz, Austria he spent several years at a global Fortune 50 company as software architect responsible for code quality and performance of dozens of large-scale database installations nationwide.

Do you have a backup of msdb from before the "cleaning"?

comment Create a result for a line chart with dates
The risk on 2/21 is not 26. Instead it is unknown. Therefore you should not plot a 26 either. Just plot the dates that the measurements were taken on and leave gaps for the other days.

comment Shrinking large DB file not working
@JamesAnderson, can't right now as a full backup is currently running. That will probably take until Tuesday... However. There is log shipping setup and we do not use any of the other log reuse preventing technologies, so this should not be an issue.

@swasheck, yes. In fact most of the files is BLOB data (including the last extent)

@MatanYungman, I did, to no avail. The last extent of the file is in use...

comment Restricting users to COPY ONLY backups
Well, I guess I did not read the question completely. The OP's concern is the log-chain, so your solution works.

Kin, you are incorrect. A full backup resets the differential pointers. If the full backup than is lost e.g. because it was only meant to be a temporary, differentials take afterwards cannot be restored. Full and Log backups do not in any way interact. (But a lost Log backup will still break the log-chain.)
