When do I need to backup the Service Master Key? @RemusRusanu It's documented here technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337561 I just don't see the point of do a backup of it as it's not needed to restore a encrypted databse. I was just wondering if there are some scenarios where it might be needed as i can't find any. thanks. |

When do I need to backup the Service Master Key? Yes that's clear. My question is more why is there a need (or for what purpose) to backup the Service master key. See technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa337561 |

When do I need to backup the Service Master Key? Yes I did. I needed the certificate and the key to restore it on Server B. (I did a backup of the Certificate and Key). However on B I created a new Master Key (not restored the one from Server A) and was able to Restore my database. |

Role db_ddladmin not working properly on SQL Server 2008 Hmm no. It helped me to find the solution, but his answer is not correct to solve my problem. So the downvote on my post is in my opinion wrong ;-) |
