comment Splitting a large SQL Server MDF file
I can't think of a time that you would ever want to use a RAID 0 for a production database server. One RAID issue and you lost everything.

comment What is the most effective way to compress and store a SQL Server backup?
If you compressed your backups via SQL compression, you won't be able to get much compression if you attempt to zip/7zip/rar the backup file.

The problem isn't setting up a linked server but querying the LDAP which uses the Active Directory Helper Service

comment Role of Database Administrators
DBA should be responsible for DDL. You will end up with a mess if you let the developers have that role!

More like 150+. We already have 22 converted to 2008R2. The size really won't be much different than our warehouse

I posted on FB that maybe I need to consider writing some code in case of zombie attack just to cover all bases! All of this is because someone ran a job during business hours after I told them not to do that and messed up some data.

Revoking access deletes the user. Revoking login is only for windows accounts but that did give me another idea - change the users rights

Yes, just to ensure that the person at the remote location can't access the database during this process. Not the login but just the user

comment What is the difference between a “record” and a “row” in SQL Server?
I once asked a question in MS forum many years ago in the wee hours of the morning after working on a problem for a long time and accidentally mentioned the word 'record' and yeah, he jumped on me for that one. Now I have a problem with all of the development team calling it record, just to see me wince.
