I'm not trying to make Cassandra behave like a traditional RDBMS :D I'm very well aware of the differences. But there are also traditional RDBMSes that are open sourced. So I guess your answer to my question would be "ease of use out of the box"? I could translate this to lower maintanance-personnele costs, though getting support for a commercial system also has an associated monthly/yearly costs

@AaronBertrand Thank you for your comments, but I think you misunderstood my question. I'm not questioning the quality of the commercial products, I'm just trying to figure out if buying a commercial system ends up beeing cheaper than using an open-source one (supposing that both products offer the same set of features)

That's true, but I guess the same amount of maintaince work is neccessary for commercial systems as well. But I've only used the examples of Twitter and Facebook to suggest that open-source systems can be just as realiable as their commercial counterparts.
